CD166 as a Stem Cell Marker? A Potential Target for Therapy Colorectal Cancer?

چکیده
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer in men and the second in women worldwide, accounting for almost 10 % of all cases [1,2]. The USA and Europe have high rates compared to Africa and Asia [3,4]. Only in the United States, nearly 135,000 new cases diagnosed annually that about 50,000 people will die of the disease [5]. In Iran CRC is the third most common cancer in women and the Fifth in men [6]. Two big problem is the high ability of CRC to form secondary tumours, particularly in the lung and liver and the high heterogeneity of the genetic and epigenetic changes among the individual tumours. Continual development of CRC is described on the Figure 1 [7].

Background: Metastasis and recurrence of colorectal cancer after treatment is attributed to stem cells. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the expression of stem cell marker CD166 in colorectal cancer by immunohistochemistry and clinicopathologic parameters. Methods: From 2006 to 2012, 121 colectomy specimens of patients with colon cancer that were operated in Babol...

Background: Colorectal cancer is the third most common type of aggressive cancers. Chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy are the common therapeutic options for treating this cancer. Due to the adverse side-eff ects of these methods, immunotherapy is considered as an appropriate alternative therapeutic option. Treatment through the application of monoclonal antibodies is considered as a n...

Background: To determine the expression of cancer stem cell marker Leucine-rich repeat-containing G-protein coupled receptor 5 (Lgr5) in colorectal carcinoma samples compared to normal adjacent tissue and any possible association with clinicopathological findings. متن کاملCombination of dasatinib and curcumin eliminates chemo-resistant colon cancer cells
Metastatic colorectal cancer remains a serious health concern with poor patient survival. Although 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) or 5-FU plus oxaliplatin (FOLFOX) is the standard therapy for colorectal cancer, it has met with limited success. Recurrence of the tumor after chemotherapy could partly be explained by the enrichment of the chemo-resistant sub-population of cancer stem cells (CSCs) that poss...
متن کاملClinicopathological, prognostic and predictive value of CD166 expression in colorectal cancer: a meta-analysis
CD166 has been identified as an important cancer stem cell (CSC) marker in colorectal cancer (CRC). The purpose of our study was to investigate the relationship between CD166 expression and clinical features and to examine the role of CD166 expression on the survival of patients with CRC. A total of 15 studies with 3,332 cases were identified in this meta-analysis. The pooled OR indicated that ...
